Technasia Records is an independent record company established in December 1996. It is the first record company based in Hong Kong focusing on the production of undergound electronic dance music.
The outfit Technasia is a collaboration between Amil Khan (manager of the label) from Hong Kong and Charles Siegling from France. Having met in Hong Kong some years back, they felt it was time to put South East Asia on the world map in terms of the production of electronic dance music. They have been exposed to a variety of electronic music from abroad and have been influenced in their works by early electronic sounds from the likes of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Coil, Xymox, Depeche Mode...
Technasia has built its notoriety upon quality and world acclaimed tracks such as "Descent", "Future Mix" and "Hydra" or more recently "Force" and "Evergreen" and has been supported by a wide variety of international top DJ/producers as Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Carl Cox and Sven Vath. Technasia has also brilliantly remixed tracks by some popular electronic music artists such as Sound of K’s "Silvery Sounds (Technasia hard Mix)" on F Communications (France) in 1999 or Joey Beltram’s classic track "The Start It Up" in 2000 on Glass Splinters Records.
In 2001, Technasia released their first album "Future Mix" compiling the major Technasia titles, as well as new and unreleased tracks. Previously released in Japan in July 2000, the album topped the Japanese national charts (#26). This release has lead Technasia to win three award trophys at the 2001 Edition of Berlin's Musik and Machine Awards : Best Album ("Future Mix"), Best Single ("Force") and Best Newcomer.
Since 1999, Technasia has diversified its activities by launching two new record labels. The first, Sino, is dedicated to welcoming other artists such as John Thomas on Sino 02A and 02B and Steve Rachmad (aka Sterac) on Sino 03. The second one, Star Tracks, is Charles Siegling's solo project, a five-releases-only DJ club tools label, available since December 2000.
In 1998, the third Technasia EP, "The Declamation", acted as a tribute to the pionneering ‘Future Mix Radio Show’ in mainland China, a weekly bilingual (english and mandarin) radio show dedicated to the underground electronic dance music. The ‘Future Mix Radio Show’ is airplayed in the entire South East China province of Guangdong, covering cities like Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Canton and Foshan. The show is presented by Charles Siegling, and a chinese local radio DJ, Michael Nee. The album of the same name, "Future Mix", is based on the same concept as the radio show and even features real excepts and jingles from the show !
In 2001, Technasia toured the worlds leading events and clubs with their reknowned Live Performance. Charles Siegling is also now starting several DJ residencies in popular clubs like Fuse in Brussels and Nitsa in Barcelona. This has lead Technasia to start a new series of mix CD's, titled "Plus", beginning with Charles Siegling's, recorded live at Club Orange in Beijing and successfully released in Japan in August 2001 (release at the end of 2001 in Europe).
Still one of my favorite dj´s. Hip hop skilled dj, powerfull uplifting mixing style, booty, techno, classix all in the mix. When Charles hits the decks an evening is already a succes.
