Artist: jay tripwire

Jay is relocating to new york city from Vancouver BC. He has over 200 records released and a full length album titled "Gemini Soul" that was released April 2007 on Nordic Trax. Jay is traveling throughout Europe for the rest of 2007. His remixes from his first single, titled Body To Body will be released early 2008. Check out Jay's new label Tonality Records, an imprint dedicated to House Music.

For your album, Gemini Soul, can you tell us how the release has paid off or how it has changed your approach to making music?

The preparation for the album paid off with a lot of gigs; remix work, and original material offers. I took time to put your music together for a year of practice through a natural process of progress, like anything else that takes time.

What is the first single from your released album, Gemini Soul that we can look forward to hearing?

First single release is Body to Body, it’s the main vocal track from the album. Remixes lined up so far are Mazi, Fred Everything, and Groovenauts, and Nic & Lon, Nordic Trax is still deciding the final cuts for this.

Through your years of gracing decks worldwide, we find that there are still some listeners who have a misconception about what you play. Will you specify the sounds you’re more inclined to play on your European tour in December?

This is some other level stuff, some might call it deep house and others might hear it as astronaut music. The music speaks for itself, but to my understanding it steams from the early days of Detroit Techno and the original roots of House music yet its cutting edge intelligent and made for the dance floor.

What have been your main ingredients within your recent productions?

Analogue electronic with a jazz sensibility have been the main components running with Logic 8, along with some outboard gear.

There have been some rumors floating around that you are making your way to new York City to continue your career as an international DJ and producer and set up shop, can you give us the lowdown to your for greeting and gracing the new territory?

I have a lot of friends and such there so it feels pretty natural, plus being closer to Europe is a big bonus. NYC is an inspiring place and I’m looking forward to linking up with new vocalists and musicians.

Tonality is your new project, can you describe the overall feeling of Tonality? Is there an aim for accomplishing something specific as far as stylizing a genre or releasing something you have your mind set on?

Tonality is an outlet for music simply that I like and stuff I can be free to make without the confines of a labels mandate.

We have heard about this alias of yours, named Mr_Barcode who has released with RZ, Gourmet, Felinephonix Music, and Music for Freaks. What are your plans for Barcode on the east coast?

I’m packing him up in my suitcase…

What is your main tool(s) for comfort with DJing and why? As we move into a time where Seratto is getting bigger amongst DJs worldwide, do you see yourself making any hardware transitions for your shows?

I do not trust a computer to run my DJing. After all the stories I hear about DJ so and so and their computer crashing during their set, no thanx, I play cds, and I spent a lot of time doing my own edits adding more drums and mastering to these to make the music I play more unique.

What are some releases we can hear from you that have been released in the past 6 months that you’re really vibing on?

The GA project on Tonality I’ve felt really strong about, my release on Nervous NYC, and my remix of Turbo Boost Lovah on Felinephonix Music. Going back and listening to the finished album has really given me a new appreciation for it.

What’s the next big project you have in line?

Well im working on this top secret project. Lets just say it involves King Tubby, Sly and Robbie and Yabby Yoo.

For those who don’t know, the name, Jay Tripwire by now, check out his discography. The hard earned producer comes forward with a collection of 200+ record pressings.
More like a machine with a soul, if you ask me…..
