Monokreck describes his style as "open minded house, from glitchy microhouse to deep techno, and all in between". Melting many styles of electronic music together to create a warm atmosphere on the dancefloor.
Kerst is natuurlijk niks zonder een goed diner en een kerstboom! Kerst is niks zonder sneeuw(!), kerst is niks zonder sinterklaas.
Born in Naples, Italy, on February 7, 1975, Marco Carola has emerged in the late 1990s as one of Italy s most influential exponents of Techno and Electronic Music. Growing up in the Neapolitan sunshine, by the age of 13 he got behind the skins of his first drum kit which he played for years before getting into buying and playing records
During 1990, when the Italian House scene was enjoying its golden age along with the heyday of Acid House, Carola`s drum kit was rapidly replaced by a two record player set and a mixer whereupon he practised the art of mixing and learned how to DJ to new House rhythms.
Apart from like minded friends such as Gaetano Parisio, Davide Squillace, Random Noize, and other Naples DJs who were looking for something new in club music, the transition towards Techno for Carola began in 1993. With Italo House coming to an end, Techno offered an exciting new vision of possibilities to him to create unheard sounds.
Around this time Marco Carola also started thinking about building a home studio in order to express his very own vision of Techno. His ability to mix music and his emerging studio talent made many artists come to his studio to record. Between his various more House oriented releases around this time he even managed to produce a 12" for the highly respected MAW (Masters at Work) imprint.
Carola soon found the limitations of recording for other people`s labels too restrictive for his own creative output and in 1996 he set about producing material for a new dynamic sound that was more in line with where he was heading. The result, Design Music, became the first Italian label to focus purely on releasing Techno music, bursting out of Naples with his own Man Train 12" as the inaugural release.
Quickly garnering support from Techno DJs worldwide, Carola`s original sound instantly filled the slot somewhere between Surgeon`s dynamic syncopation, Lost`s cavernous walls of sound, and Blueprint`s hi-fidelity. Design now acts as one of the main lifelines for fresh Techno music from Italy and most notably Naples with new up and coming artists like Gaetek and Random Noize releasing under the Design banner.
After Design, Carola founded his 1000 imprint in 1998 in order to produce ultra-fresh DJ music which he could test on his ever expanding international gigging schedule. By 1998 his first Australian tour was in progress, swiftly followed by tours of North America where his unique 3 deck mixing style made him one of the most requested Techno DJs at the time.
In January 1998 he teamed up with gadgets and i220 head honcho Corrado Izzo and established 2 new labels, Zenit and Question, as part of ELP (Electronic Label Pool), a label / artist pool for numerous DJs / Producers from around the world. The duo worked hard at developing the ever growing network with Zenit soon achieving the pole position among the many labels under the ELP umbrella.
In October 2001 Carola released his second album, Open System which was critically acclaimed and widely regarded as a landmark recording. Carola s ambition to define electronic music anew showcased a mix of different styles, a fusion containing several slower rhythmic qualities in between innovative broken electronic beats, beautiful melody lines, and experimental sophisticated arrangements with live organic sounds and drum pads.
Currently back residing in Naples after stints in London and Frankfurt, Marco Carola continues his heavy gigging schedule which sees him performing at major clubs and festivals all over the world. Likewise his steady recording output is restricted to his own Zenit label and the odd collaboration with other major players (such as The Advent). He now stands as one of Techno`s true prime movers.
