Sven Väth was born on 26th of october 1964 in Offenbach, Germany. After school and an apprenticeship as building fitter he was given the chance to play the decks at the famous Frankfurt club Dorian Gray. This was in 1982.
Off - Organization for fun. That was the name of the project Väth joined in the mid-eighties. Together with Michael Münzig and Luca Anzilotti (later Snap) they released several singles (Electrica salsa) and two albums. Sven's part was that of the frontman and singer.
Together with Michael Münzig in 1988 he opened his own club in Frankfurt, the legendary Omen. For a long time rumours spreaded that it had to be closed, and that's what finally happened in autumn 1998.
1989 Sven quit Off and started the project Mosaic together with Matthias Hoffman (AC Boutsen) and Steffen Britzke (Stevie B-Zet). It lastet till the end of 1990 and they produced several club hits and remixes.
Sven always had an instinct to combine his passion for music with a healthy business sense. So it's no surprise that he also founded his own record label. EyeQ was born in 1991/92. There he released all of his soon to come solo material as well as a number of other important acts. Two sub-labels were also created - Harthouse (techno and house) and Recycle-or-Die (ambient and experimental).
Probably the most important event for Sven's own musical work was the meeting with Ralf Hildenbeutel in 1992. Ever since then both worked together on Sven's own albums. Ralf himself is a very active musician / producer and is engaged in own projects like Earth Nation, Curare, Progressive Attack or Schallbau.
The first fruit of their cooperation was Sven's first album under his own name, 1992's "Accident in paradise", followed only one year later by "The Harlequin, the Robot and the Ballet Dancer". Both are rather unconventional works and differ a lot from the sound Väth practices when playing in clubs.
In 1995 Väth produced together with Stevie B-Zet his first movie soundtrack for the german thriller "Der kalte Finger". In the same year he had to cancel his ambitious performance project. He had planned to bring techno music into a bigger context and combine it with elements from other arts like light, graphics, video and even acrobatics.
In the summer of 1997 EyeQ had to close down due to financial difficulties. There's still EyeQ UK in Great Britain but this has nothing more to do with Sven's company.
Sven founded Cocoon Booking, by now one of the most important german booking agencies. The offices are in Frankfurt, right on the source of it all. In January 1998 his third album "Fusion" was released, this time on Virgin. Being a much more club-oriented piece it soon had several singles published. A club tour followed, where Väth appeared always together with one of the remixers of Fusion. The remixes themself were published in a special "Six in the mix" collection: six limited edition vinyl LPs, whose assembled covers show Sven's gigantic headphone.
During this tour Sven was heard with the statement that after this close relationship with all these remixers he's really asking himself why he shouldn't go into the studio with them and do something together on the spot. We may look forward if this turns out into something real.
