Some dj’s are real crowd pleasers. If the audience is enthusiastic, they perform better. Karotte is that kind of dj. For over twenty years Peter Cornely’s goal has been to please the public. It doesn’t matter with what kind of records: House, techno, progressive or minimal. Call it what you want, Karotte plays it. Since a few years he has been getting more bookings in the Netherlands. This way more Dutch party people can enjoy the fabulous dj-sets of this inspiring dj. He has had a residency in the famous club U60311 in Frankfurt for over seven years and recently he decided to look for new challenges.

After so many years you quit as dj @ U60. Why?

Seven years of residency in a club is a long time. I decided it’s time for a change now. I still like the U60311, but everything has an end.

How did you come up with the artist name “Karotte”?
That’s an old story from the 80´s. DJ T. (the founder of the famous dance-magazine Groove) knew my nickname. Suddenly my charts in the magazine were placed with my picture and the name "DJ Karotte". From that moment everybody started to call me Karotte.

What do you think of the minimal/house scene in Holland?

Since many years my Dutch friends come to party with me in Germany because of the very hard and cheesy sound that was big in Holland in those days. The last three years a few organisers started to invite "German minimal dj’s" to the clubs in Holland and the crowd adopted the sound slowly. The fan base of this kind of music is growing in Holland and they are very interested in the newest releases. I really have fun spinning there now.

Who do you admire in the scene?

I don’t admire anybody special. I really love a few artists because of there spinning-style and the way they handle the crowd. I respect Richie Hawtin and Luciano is also one of my favourites. A couple of other dj’s are close behind. There are so many talented dj’s, but also a lot of bad ones too.

You don’t have trouble with ultra-long dj-sets up to 12 or 18 hours. There are not many dj’s that can hold the attention of a crowd for such a long time. What is your secret?

I love music, maybe that’s the secret. And I don’t drink much alcohol. The most important thing is the crowd, they are really pushing me to my best performance.

What can we expect from you in the future? A new residency somewhere else?

I will keep my residencies at Harry Klein in Munich and Airport in Würzburg. I’ll spin there every first Friday once in two months. I’m still working on another new residency in Frankfurt. This summer I will also start with my weekly radio show on Sunshine radio. So there are a lot of new things coming up.

Do you also produce tracks?

I’ve just finished my latest track "Go to Bed", which will be released on Kosmo Records in March. I’ve recorded the single with Dave Shokh in his studio because I don’t have my own studio yet. I also did a remix for Mark Wehlke "One" (F-Ton) which comes out this April.

Can we expect an album maybe?

Yes, the album is in production already. We have finished five tracks and it´s a co-production with different artists like Dave Shokh, Gregor Tresher, Tobi Neumann, Einmusik. The album will be ready in late summer.

Een geval apart, de manier waarop deze Duitser het publiek bespeelt is onbeschrijfelijk. Zijn sets blijven boeien, mede door de sublieme nummers die hij steeds weer inmixed. Het Duitse, minimale gedreun met een electro insteek is dan ook van ongekende klasse. Superb dj!

Karotte is echt een koning! Zijn setjes en hijzelf brengen zoveel energie en vrolijkheid. Zijn set op Timewarp was ongekend, 23:00 en de hele zaal ging al plat! Karotte..... een absolute top dj! icon_worship.gif

Hoorde Peter 2 jaar geleden voor t eerst en ben meteen fan geworden ! De sfeer die om hem heen hangt als hij optreed past precies bij de muziek die hij draait , onvervalste minimaal dreunende schlagerrock , toneelspel erbij en t plaatje is perfect ! Afgelopen N1 draaide hij 4 maal op een avond , switchend van bunker naar tent en weer zuruck , geweldig ! voor een 12 of 18 uurs sessie draait hij ook zn hand niet om ,uur na uur blijft boeien ! Hij was resident van de legendarische Stammheim en nu resident van de U60. Karotte ,,eurem lieblings partymaker'' !
Ich habe da keine Vorgabe und keine Eingrenzung. Ich bin ein Club-DJ und die Leute sollen bei mir tanzen!“

En resident in de loft ....

Maar minimaal????? Als hij 2 minimale platen in 1u draait zal het al veel zijn. Voor mij is het house met een hoog feest gehalte.

Vind dat zijn stijl heel moeilijk in een hokje te plaatsen is, heeft elementen uit veel soorten techno of housemuziek.
