Legendary radio DJ John Peel dies
John Peel was one of the UK's most-loved broadcasters
Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru.
Peel, whose radio career spanned 40 years, was on a working holiday in the city of Cuzco with his wife Sheila when he suffered a heart attack.
He was BBC Radio 1's longest-serving DJ and in recent years had also presented Home Truths on Radio 4.
What can i say??
..still a little speechless, just like that first moment i heared the news (only last night.. i tuned in for listening Radio One's Breezeblock show) Couldn't believe it so went surfing right away, but BBC's headlines grabbed me within the minute offcourse..
I never even got to listen the BB show, as i've only been busy reading the condoleance messageboard & all links attached till late, very late...
I'd like to quote some from all that, as my feelings couldn't be better described as the way these ppl did:
" In these Times, when Politics became a big farce and music was still the most important distraction, it's coming to me as a huge shock, that one of my biggest heroes, John Peel (BBC1) died.
Peel was the most important leader of DJ history ever. If there was anything like research for music, Peel had the best skills of doing this, he was always a trend scout, a leader in finding new talents, an entertainer, who made unknown bands and developing music genres strong, which wouldn't have had a chance otherwise: from HipHop to Electronics, from Progressive Rock to excentric music styles of Cpt. Beefheart or the White Stripes.."
"A total legend. Could make you laugh as well as absolutely stagger you with his knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the music. Many, many people including most that never even met him will be genuinely sad at the news. An impossible void to fill in the world of radio."
"Very sad... He was the closest thing I've ever had to a hero. I don't think he would of liked that.
The thing that always impressed me most about Peel was his incredible modesty despite all he had done for music in Britain and around the world"
..shine on Peely! Gone, yet in our hearts forever - RIP 079's..
"lemme show you how we dismantle your hipster facade.."
