The gates of Westfalenhallen open and allow a view of the biggest collection of contemporary high-tech machinery. Pipes glow, bolides bellow, generators hum. The night may begin, MAYDAY 2005 PROTOTYPES.
The protagonists go over the operating manual once more, getting ready for the performance of their lives. They have flown in from all over the universe.. Gigolo Corporation, EK International, CLR Enterprises, and Punx Ltd. are just the spearhead of the enterprises represented here. The rest of the community is here as well of course. Slowly the highly concentrated Tech-Heads enter the arena with an anticipatory look and fully-loaded acusto-plug-ins, ready for the moment of truth and clarity. The reign of the prototypes has begun!
History
Back in the formative 90's, Mayday developed its integrated, multimedia Five Senses Concept into an annual cycle, intended to create the greatest possible degree of consciousness confusion. In the new millennium, with the digital light and sound technology possibilities available today, these opportunities have expanded wonderfully and are transformed into reality each year again with the deployment of the latest technology. Mayday was and remains the primary playground for new event technologies, making it by default the "prototype" for everything that has followed in its wake.
The combination of the elements affecting the senses of hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste blend together under the Mayday symbol into a comprehensive experience expressing its intensity in its proximity to a natural altered-state experience. Without the use of chemical or biological mind-altering substances, those attending this avant-garde indoor rave submerge into a world of sound, light, images, videos, projections and physical contact through spatial constriction. The interplay between these elements creates the depth of the Mayday Five Senses Experience. Appreciated by the punters for its unique character, 2005 will prove no exception in regard to the extraordinary technological installation for this intoxicating experience.
Under the technical supervision of "Digger" and the "Sound Police", the companies Tonart, RGB, VPS, Showtec and Stage Kinetic will create the Five Senses atmosphere. Under the motto "Prototypes", Mayday demands not only a further pioneering sound and lighting concept, but also the perfect combination of all the elements for the maximum intensity of the delirium to be experienced. So shall it be.
MAYDAY 2005 PROTOTYPES
DJs:
WESTBAM - BERLIN
1985 - 1995 - 2005. While Westbam was considered a prototype of an unheard of rhythm-happy type of musician in his early days, he has now - thanks to the numerous technological setup advances - morphed into a benchmark for Techno DJ's / producers. Westbam - the epitome of Mayday and the man who paved the way for electronic dance music.
JOEY BELTRAM - NEW YORK CITY
Once he was hooked on House & Techno at the tender age of thirteen, he has come a long way, keeping his eye on the crowd. That's Joey Beltram from NYC. He loves Old Europe because this is where his straight concept of Techno is widely appreciated - thanks to Mayday, Tresor, and Loveparade.
LUKE SLATER - LONDON
While the United Kingdom of British Rave is flooding Ibiza once more, somewhere in his Eastend studio Luke Slater prepares the next level of his journey through various Techno landscapes. Check it out on Luke's new mix CD, "Fear and Loathing 2." And of course, at Mayday.
HELL - MUNICH
The Munich-based cosmopolitan of style. Given his always innovative releases and superb DJ sets we can forgive his hang for FC Bayern. While Hell counts P.Diddy and Donatella among his friends and feels at home at the catwalks of Milan and Paris, he has still remained a punk at heart. At Mayday he will exclusively present the Best of Gigolo Releases 1997-2005. This is The Unbreakable.
CHRIS LIEBING - FRANKFURT
The sound of Frankfurt-based Chris keeps on spreading. His career in the harder realm of electronic dance music is a role model example of uncompromising integrity. Starting in a tiny underground club in Giessen, Germany, he now calls the world his home. A nicer shade of globalisation - be it at Mayday or at Avalon, NYC.
FERRY CORSTEN - ROTTERDAM
Techno's trance side will be presented at Mayday 2005 by the highly renowned Dutchman, Ferry Corsten. After stopovers in Ljubljana, Birmingham and the Lebanon, his sound vehicle lands once more at the Westfalenhallen, Dortmund.
THE PLUMP DJS - LONDON
Are they plump? Do they plump? Just what were they thinking when they picked this name for their DJ project? Whatever the answer, these are the prototypes of a new Break Beat era. It's their mission to pump their sound to the max. Get ready for massive bass lines!
TOM NOVY - MUNICH
Busy as a bee, this Munich-based party dandy is winning everyone over with his relentless barrage of releases. The Techno community knows and loves him as a glorious columnist and dyed-in-the-wool party beast. It is a matter of honour that he again mans the decks at Mayday this year. Party galore!
RON VAN DEN BEUKEN - MAASTRICHT
Holland's upcoming new Energetic Trance Star is being floated in the neighbouring Netherlands as a secret weapon for the Olympic Games in Peking. While those in the know are asking 'why him and not Tiesto', Ron will supply all the answers on April 30th, 2005 in Dortmund, got it?
TOMCRAFT - MUNICH
Tomcraft has been delivering 'Great Stuff' regularly since 1995. Great Stuff is also the very promising name of his own label, including booking agency and video production company. Just how this studio wizard manages to effortlessly deliver his new album, "Hyper Sexy Conscious", in the midst of all his DJ gigs is a mystery in itself. If all goes as planned, it will appear mere weeks after Mayday.
MOGUAI - R'HAUSEN
The hometown boy (more or less). His sets can only be described as diversified and packed with a kick. And Moguai's personal qualities are right in line with this. His Moguai & Friends series is known and loved by all his DJ colleagues. A friendly host, making us all the happier to see him again this year at the Westfalenhallen. Cheers!
KAI TRACID - FRANKFURT
Kai is a more reserved type when he's not at the decks. And he's all the wilder when he's pumping out his very own "Trance & Acid" sound, regardless of whether it's on an Australian club tour or in the projects on his label, Tracid Traxx.
HARDYHARD - BERLIN
The Electric Kingdom's principal icon. The man known for sprinkling just the right amount of funkyness into his sets and productions. If there were no HardyHard aka Chemical Reaction Food, then he would have to be invented by a mad scientist in a secret laboratory. Is he possibly a two-legged groove machine in reality?
DR MOTTE - BERLIN
The mythical 'Keeper of the Grail' and the mouthpiece of the Loveparade. The prototype for an entire rave generation. His wealth of experience is immeasurable, his moves unpredictable. Techno as a mission in life.
TIEFSCHWARZ - BERLIN
Whenever the finishing touch is needed, seasoned producers turn to the Tiefschwarz Bros. begging for one of their grandiose remixes to take the track to another dimension. Club legends Hell and Eric D. Clark are gobsmacked - just like the Tiefschwarz crowds in the clubs around the planet.
DAVID CARRETTA - MARSEILLE
The French warrior from Hell's electrical secret gigolo society. The Dark Minister of Dark Electro-Techno, Electronic Body Music influences are included at no extra charge. Mighty old school. Monolithic in its impact.
TOBIAS THOMAS - COLOGNE
Classic, premium Cologne compact sounds will be represented at Mayday 2005 by Tobias Thomas. "Demanding Departure" - a fitting label, as if Tobias needed one. Which he doesn't. His capabilities are proven beyond doubt.
JUSTICE DJ TEAM - PARIS
Gigolos from France. Stylistic confidence and justification. 'Satisfy the Ladies' as the Golden Rule. They traverse the entire musical cosmos, stopping occasionally at the indie disco before moving on. Ed Bangers rule.
SAVAS PASCALIDIS - BERLIN
Bon vivant and gigolo, who is nevertheless always approachable and obliging. His sets are always rough, but he's also got a touch for incandescent anthems. Lima, Copenhagen, Athens - he's treated with love and respect wherever he goes. Appropriately enough also in Dortmund.
DISCO BOYS - HAMBURG
Regarded by some as jokers and clowns, but they know themselves what their strengths are: Disco-House at the highest level. Their mission: The fine art of entertainment! If the crowd's not boiling, the mission's not accomplished yet. Partying is a duty. All Nite Long!
DIANA D'ROUZ - POZNAN
Diana's Techno is pumping and progressive. At the little brother Mayday Poland event, she proved that she ranks with the elite. Now for the rematch. Enter the arena! Trust the girls!
WIGHNOMY BROTHERS - JENA
Robag Wruhme always creates a furore with his solo releases & remixes. But while wild noises can be heard rushing through the leaves in the Techno forest, the real deal is happening at the decks: In collaboration with the Monkey Maffia, new styles are tried, defined and invented. Very creative.
ANDRE GALLUZZI - BERLIN
Frankfurt To Berlin. Sophisticated House. André wants moreagain. And this ain't got nothing to do with "Four To The Floor". The approach here is in accordance with the strictest scientific guidelines. Every track is a golden nugget, and Galluzzi is the goldsmith.
BRANDENBURG ALLSTARS - B'BURG
They're stars at home, who you have to keep an eye out for everywhere at all times. The idea of the collective lives on through them. The Five Year Plan is set. Expansion! Brandenburg Allstars Go West! Brandenburg - where Techno still comes from the heart.
MARTIN HEYDER - R'HAUSEN
A new figure on the Punx platform. His sets are deep and sophisticated. Martin guarantees stylistic diversity and voyages of discovery without borders - and all this without losing sight of good ole' DJ handwork.
FETISCH - BERLIN
The sympathetic Terranova head is not only kind to animals and full of empathy - he also knows that there's more to life than just Four To The Floor. His Berlin electro selection assures obscure hits and sleek entertainment.
ROMINA COHN - Buenos Aires
Moroder meets Ramones. Infected by disco and punk, Romina Cohn mutated into a creature that vehemently ploughs through stylistic borders, making her own very special mix out of the rubble. She takes no prisoners and commands with a mixture of Studio 54 and CBGB's, ca. 1980.
Live Acts:
DENKI GROOVE - TOKYO
All Systems Active. Denki Groove Onstage. Japans overtly technological first-generation Robo-Heads stomp through the Westfalenhallen. Electro-Tech with mass appeal.
MEMBERS OF MAYDAY - UNIVERSE
Unite, baby! When the laser canons are aimed at the dance-hardened protagonists, then the time has come for the big meltdown. All mechanisms integrate with one another and all prototypes total more than the mere sum of their parts. Movement. Creation. Flash!
LEXY & K-PAUL - BERLIN
Vicious Kids from Boogie-Down Berlin. The Brawn and the Brain have just upgraded their machinery to the latest state of technology and are now ready to permeate the crowd with the big songs and seductive smiles they always have in tow.
X-LOVER - LONDON
This band was spit out of a gorge governed by excess, decadence, sex, violence and horror. The Unholy Trinity from Hell. Onstage, your worst nightmares come true. The energy is lethal. In private, it is nonetheless said that Bryan, Olivier and their sex goddess Nina are actually quite amicable.
PLAY PAUL - PARIS
This name means quality. Because anyone releasing on high quality labels like Roulé, Crydamoure and Gigolo must have discriminating taste and healthy synapses. Presented live with verve and casual nonchalance. Zeez big-a Frenchmen, no?...
JORIS VOORN - ROTTERDAM
Techno, Breaks and Electro are Joris' siblings. He grew up with them and still maintains a friendly bond with his playmates today. The Wunderkind from Holland. He puts the 'E' back into Electronic Music. He takes his job seriously, too, because he knows that without innovation, nothing happens.
REINHARD VOIGT - COLOGNE
The Deep Diver of the Rhine. And as a live act, he brings the compact concept to life like no one else. With the grace and elegance of a Techno Lord-of-the-Manner, he dishes out his goods. Deep shit indeed.
SONIC TRIP - LODZ
More bass. More bass. Nobis, Ex-Wookie, Infinity and Frontmann MC I take the pitch as extreme team players who need no words to communicate. Who actually gave permission for Techno bands? Must have been a fine individual.
DEICHKIND - HAMBURG
Don't call it a comeback! These guys toned the rap down a bit, but boosted the bass to the max. They also reinforce their creative potency with voodoo ceremonies, the effects of which can be felt onstage. Rock Hard!
