Posts: 560 Events: 3 | | Posted: 12-10-2006 00:57:40 | | | I had a really good time in the 'gas' ! It was almost a year ago that i last visited this place and it was good to be back. The location offers some nice features which you normally don't see in the usual places because of the round venue. Of course, the quality of the sound suffers from this but in terms of show and uniqueness this totally makes up for that
I came in when Estroe did her liveset, and i must say i was positively surprised. Too bad it was so early and not many people dancing yet, but i liked her groovy sound! At the end of her set it was getting crowdier up front, and Michel de Hey started
He was the second one to surprise me, heard some great tunes and not so 'hit'-sensitive as he sometimes is when he has to play as last one in a lineup. Too bad he used his effects a little too much; fading away the sound when there should be a hell of a climax, but maybe that was also because of the time he had to play and the artist who followed him up
That brings me to 2000 and one. I already heard him at Lowlands, and i really liked him there, so i knew what to expect. Still he performed better than i expected, even though i know practicly all of his tracks. He even made his massive summer hit 'pecan' sound original, and that's quite a good job because i really heard that one too often last months (and ending with my favourite 'adonai elohim' is even better)
This really got me going and with me the rest of the crowd. We were ready to go on like this and boy we were Bart Skils took place after Dylan, and what a set he played! Dark pounding techno with a funky touch; just the way i like him most. I kept on having my arms in the air; superb!
After his set i wandered around a bit, and some friends had to cool a bit off (it was really hot inside) so i didn't hear much of Solid Decay..
Rachmad though was not as good as i hoped. I heard him couple weeks ago in Doornroosje and there he was real fonky but this time it seemed he was uninspired. Too bad!
The closing act was Secret Cinema, and although they really rocked, i couldn't really find the groove i was in during 2000 and one and bart skils back.
So, musically, it was solid, with 2000 and one and bart skils as highlights
The crowd was not as good though. Very often i had the feeling i was the only one dancing and cheering; only up front was a little action going on. Don't know if it was the heat or that it was caused by the people who were there for the second night in a row, but it did the atmosphere no good unfortunately
Anyway, i enjoyed myself to the fullest with the people i was with and seeing the lineup in november i think i won't miss that one

you really experienced it in the same way as I did, Michel was playing a little deeper than normally and that was a good thing, but with the climax's he was really stupid indeed. Maybe he deserves a little more credit from myself because the climax's were the only thing he did wrong.
2000 and one and Bart were the highlights indeed and also the tropical melons and pecan records were indeed nice to hear. He brought them this time in a UNEEK way! ;)
Too bad you weren't there on the friday, damned, that was a superb night!
Hope to see you in november again, if not on my birthday, than at awake......
Thumbs up!
