He’s the bad boy of the Amsterdam techno underground: Daniel Sanchez, 26 year old son of a Spanish father and a Dutch mother, who scored one of the biggest hits of the summer of 2007 with the infectious ‘Mumbling yeah’. Daniel’s ‘mumbling’ vocals give the track that special edge.
Tegenstellingen leiden tot de mooiste dingen, zo blijkt ook uit de samenwerking tussen disco-housemeester Hans-Peter Lindstrøm en zangeres Christabelle Sandoo, voorheen bekend als Solale.
In 1997, Andreas Kubat and Sebastian Bohn (DJ Boon) met through a mutual friend “...in order to try out a few sounds...”
Andreas, at the time a Hip-Hop producer, might have thought that little or no common ground existed between himself and Sebastian, a Techno DJ. After the first sessions, however, it was apparent that their two perspectives of modern music were not as far apart as they thought.
Several hours in the studio in addition to experiences at festival and club gigs were to follow. Years were spent developing a common style in which the characteristic Northern Lite sound was refined and optimized. With the discovery of Andreas’ singing voice the project could finally realize its full potential. With the debut CD Small Chamber Works released in March 2000 on 1st Decade Records (vinyl-release of Sauer Records’ Looking At You) attention was given to Northern Lite for the first time, underscoring the first stage of development.
Inspired by the new and bigger studio and the steadily-growing interest from all angles, Northern Lite produced songs with a memorable and unique voice: Trusting Blind, I Cannot Fall, Away From You, Treat Me Better and other songs were enthusiastically received at festivals (SMS 2001) and clubs all over Germany. More and more DJ’s are coming to appreciate the sound that is unique to the records of Northern Lite. Whether it is because of the clear and memorable melodies or the unexpectedly charismatic stage presence, time and again Northern Lite leaves behind a mass of dancing revellers and stunned faces.
Numerous NL releases on various labels have appeared since the begining of 2002. Some examples are Treat Me Better on City Rockers out of London and My Pain on the German label Lasergun Records. There are also some new releases on NL's home turf 1stdecade records: Sigue Sigue Sputnik vs. Northernlite with Everybody Loves You (original from SSS's new album Piratespace) and bonus remix from Tok Tok vs. Soffy.O. And while on the subject, NL has developed quite a reputation for itself as remixer. In addition to the aforementioned, Set It Off from Peaches and The Virus from The Horrorist were also remixed by NL this year. You can also look forward to remixes of music from Sono and Echomen/U.K. to be out soon as well as a remix of Monosurround's I Warned You Baby, on 1stdecade Records among others.
Northern Lite performed this year as the headliner of their own NEO.POP - TOUR 2002 among a list of other performances in venues and festivals such as Loveparade/Lovenation, Nature One, Melt, Liberty One, Sonne Mond und Sterne in Germany, Wire02 in Tokyo, 21st Century BodyRockers Clubnight in London, Mayday Poland, Rohstofflager Zürich and many more. For these live performances Northern Lite enlisted the help of guitarist Larry Lowe who suddenly materialized out of South Carolina. His contribution to the Northern Lite sound live and on vinyl is noteworthy. This team rocks!!!
