Artist: electric indigo

Electric IndigoElectric Indigo is the DJ-update of the man-machine music-idea: the combination of human funkyness and a non-stop running 808: Electric Indigo kicked dancefloors in 30 countries and 131 cities in Europe and North-America, she worked as a radio-dj , music-producer and recordshop-manager.

Like nearly no other dj Electric Indigo constantly represents an intelligent & and abstract techno-ideal. She started her dj-career 1989 in Vienna, Austria with jazz and funk sets, but soon the Detroit and Chicago techno-sound became her style. This brought her to the famous Hard Wax recordstore in Berlin, Germany. In this central instituion of the world-wide techno-network Electric Indigo was responsible for purchase and communication from 1993 till 1996, then she moved back to Vienna, where she built up her own studio.

1998 she started indigo: inc - a server for extended party experiences and multi-mediaevents. This was also the time when she created female:pressure, which is an international database for female djs, producers and visual artists who work in the fields of electronic music. female:pressure is a unique, web-based resource of female talent all around the globe and has been built to enhence mutual support and communication as well as the general level of information about female artists.

From May 99 until the end of February 2000 she worked for the alternative TV station TIV in Vienna. She hosted the two shows "indigo encounters" and "TIVIT" under the pseudonym indigo:inc. The first featured international studio guests from the music biz, the second was a weekly one hour information program about information technology, software developments, technical innovations, open source, privacy and related civil rights.

From May 2000 until January 2001 Electric Indigo provided music and internet news for the Austrian radio station FM4's web appearance. In summer 2000 she was one of the lectors for the Red Bull Music Acadamy 2000 in Dublin/Ireland, talking about networking and use of the internet in the music biz.

2001 has been the year for her to relaunch female:pressure on it's own website - a decision coherent with the growing self-dynamic and the more independent character of this network. Apart from touring more extensively than ever, she has also been increasingly engaged in cultural and political life on a structural and theoretical level: frequently invited for panel discussions ["techno visionen" at the spring one festival, organized by Medienturm in Graz/Austria and "white trash girl" organized by Volkstanz in Vienna/Austria, both May 2001, "popkultur unter female pressure" organized by fmz in Hamburg/Germany, November 2001, to name a few] and since July 2001 she has been member of the board of mica, the Music Information Center Austria.
