After his summer smash hit "Napolitanzer" together with Fokko Versloot it was time for Beatfreax to ask him to do a mix for our podcast. And here it is! An awesome mix with tracks by e.g. Nils Number, Dimitri Andreas, Lopazz and of course the man himself.
Growing up with his mothers’ well-sorted record collection, widely ranging from Velvet Underground to the German-speaking formation Ideal, the heroes of Dave’s youth were not at all into electronic music, but rather long-haired, tattooed and stretch-jeans wearing heavy metal bands such as Slayer, Venom or Celtic Frost.
At the age of 14, Dave made his first musical steps as the drummer of a Death-Metal band, just like it behoves for a full-circle headbanger. Dave’s record collection hence associated trips to the british punk-era of the late 80’s with other bands like DAF (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft). However, a visit to a Manchester House Night in 1995 in the south of Germany was to change it all.
During that night, DJ Carl Cox confronted the 17year-old Dave with a for him completely unknown type of music. Overwhelmed by the pure energy and driving force of house music in conjunction with dancers going completely wild, this night deeply engrained itself in his consciousness. Why the hell had nobody told him before? During the following months, Dave was busy collecting oodles of tapes and the weekends were spend in clubs away from his home town, such as Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Kassel and, of course, Berlin.
In 1998, Dave and some friends started organising more or less legal open air parties in the south of Germany. The party established pretty well, and after a while more than 1000 people appeared. Eventually, Dave moved to Frankfurt in the summer of 2000, and at the same time from the dancefloor to the DJ booth. Enduring stopovers in various record stores redirected his initial focus on electro and techno to Detroit and Chicago House, which is still very noticeable in his DJ sets today.
As a freelance editor for diverse magazines, Dave finally socialised with clubs like the Robert Johnson and the Playhouse label. Since the end of 2003, Dave is an integral part of the Ongaku / Klang Elektronik / Playhouse crew in Offenbach am Main, being the head of the entire media- and promotional department, and being responsible for all outside communication.
Dave has played all major clubs in Germany, including the Robert Johnson, where he hosts his own night entitled »I live here!«, the Panorama Bar/ Berghain in Berlin, the Rote Sonne and the Harry Klein in Munich and Sven Väth’s Cocoon Club.
Dave Now works in Berling where he is head of promotion for Beatport.
