After his summer smash hit "Napolitanzer" together with Fokko Versloot it was time for Beatfreax to ask him to do a mix for our podcast. And here it is! An awesome mix with tracks by e.g. Nils Number, Dimitri Andreas, Lopazz and of course the man himself.
"My name is spelled wrong again! This time they have spelled it ‘Shockk"!
Dragan A., booking agent at Kiddaz.fm has to hear this at least once a month when Dave comes across the flyers he’s billed on. Dragan surely thinks, "The rascal should be glad that he’s able to DJ so much". In reality Dave agrees because music is his passion and every weekend he transfers that feeling to the crowd.
Summer 1987, Heilbronn: A little boy sits in his room and records every radio song which pleases him on his new tape recorder. When the tape is complete, he plays it to his friends and his parents on full volume. Unfortunately not everyone likes the same music, and so the first mix compilations remain unconsidered.
Summer 2004, 17 years later, at Arena Berlin: Dave stands in front of 4000 people and plays music again. This time it pleases him because it’s his own. Now the sound is more than accepted, and it was obvious by the faces in the audience. The man feels satisfied.
That is the very rough personal record of Dave Shokh, who saw the daylight in 1983 for the first time.
In the several years in-between many things have happened. In 1991, the 8 year old feels the 4/4 beat for the first time. Songs like Felix’s, 'Don't You Want Me', 'Das Boot' by U96 and Snap’s, 'Rhythm is a Dancer' are played on the radio non-stop. Eurodance is born and it brings techno from the underground to top of the pops and he is extremely fascinated. Dave grows up with this sound and moves on to buy his first set of turntables in 1997.
Soon to follow he discovers music making software. He makes himself a name on the internet and achieves over 4000 downloads on a music portal after submitting his own original material. He is played on Germany’s biggest dance station, Sunshine Live, which broadcasts the Top 20.
Some months later Dave gets in contact with a man named Ron Flatter who at the time operates the booking agency, 'Hi-Fi-Bookings'. Ron gets Dave his biggest booking to date, where he plays together with DJ Emerson and Holgi Star of Kiddaz.fm, Berlin. Dave gives Emerson and Holgi his first techno demo ever. The Kiddaz guys want to sign the track for a vinyl mini compilation.
Kiddaz also commission Dave on the remix duty for Sven Brede’s 'Third Server', which has been played by DJ’s including Dave Clarke or Laurent Garnier. The Kiddaz crew receive more tracks from him, leading to an album deal. The debut LP is called 'Shokh'n'Roll', named after the first demo CD. The 'Shokh’n’Roll' LP becomes a "Heavy Rotation Record of the Month" in Raveline, Germany’s biggest electronic magazine. Other magazines including, Groove and De:Bug give praise to the release. With his new found success in production, Dave works on more tracks, remixes and collaborations (see discography).
At the end of 2003, he is listed in 'The Best Newcomer Top 10' in Raveline ahead of acts like Renato Cohen, Eric Sneo and Moonbootica. 'Shokh’n’Roll' is also listed in the 'Top 20 Best Albums'. Soon Dave moves from Stuttgart to Berlin in order to concentrate on music full time and to be closer to his new found Kiddaz family. The move proves to be successful as his work has since taken him on the road as a DJ and a live act - travelling to Japan, Poland and extensively in Germany. The live act includes MC Nexsone on the microphone and Johnny Flash on the effects. The act differs extremely from others, as it surpasses any one-man-laptop-show and brings a true live atmosphere to the club.
Dave’s releases expand to labels including: Hidden Agenda, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Paso Music and of course Kiddaz.fm. This is only the beginning of worldwide expansion. He produces all records on the rising imprint, Playmate Music, on which his project Tha Dons - together with Johnny Flash – has been born. In addition, this year he will introduce his own label.
Different Styles and always stamp the Shokh signature on it! There’s one law for his producing and DJ Style: There is no law. Dave calls that 'Shokh'n'Roll'. Check out his sound and you will understand!
