Beatfreax podcast: Koen Lebens
After his summer smash hit "Napolitanzer" together with Fokko Versloot it was time for Beatfreax to ask him to do a mix for our podcast. And here it is! An awesome mix with tracks by e.g. Nils Number, Dimitri Andreas, Lopazz and of course the man himself.
Full Spectrum + Border Community = 3
This Is™ Amsterdam in Paradiso

(A.K.A. Spooky)

"I love working with people who have no idea where middle C is..."
(Charlie May, August 2001)

Alongside friend and producer Duncan Forbes and recording for landmark imprint Guerilla, Charlie May burst onto the scene with the seminal progressive band Spooky in '93 / '94. Producing a series of killer 12"s (in particular 'Schmoo') and rocking a killer live show, Charlie and Duncan's debut Spooky album 'Gargantuan' (Guerilla, 1994) is down in the annals of dance as one of the classic albums (and changing hands for upwards of £75 on the web).

A dance album from back in the days when dance albums, especially good ones, was a very rare commodity, and an album still making an impact today.

Signing to A&M after the demise of Guerilla, and with further critically acclaimed singles to their name, Charlie and Duncan felt it was time to take a break from Spooky a few years ago.

Charlie's then worked with William Orbit, his association with William began back in Guerilla days (Orbit was a silent partner in the label), and remain good friends. They have worked together on various projects ever since. Charlie joined Orbit to work on material for Madonna's album. "It was sound design mainly, throwing my noises into the mix."

Charlie then worked closely with Sasha on the Airdrawndagger album, but more recently he's been back in the studio with Duncan again working on Spooky material. They released a single late in 2003 called "Belong" and more material should be seeing the light of day soon.
