Artist: 2000 and one

(A.K.A. 2000 and One & Jerome, Microfunk)

2000 and OneStruck by the unique sounds featured on Herbie Hancock’s Rock it. Moving a record backward and forward on a turntable. Now days known as cuttin and schratchin, set the path for young Dylan Hermelijn.
The likes of Grand mixer DST, Grandwizzard Theodore and Grandmaster Flash is what idolize Dylan. An adventure into the world of B-boy’s and Hip Hop, that’s what it’s all about.

Hip hop during the early eighties was a totally different phenomenon than the current time. Technology wasn’t so advanced and samplers and drumcomputers where for a few with the money to spend. Most of the kids where not that well packed with cash, therefore the music was created by the dj.
As a matter of fact the dj used his two turntables as a complete instrument. Selecting the best parts of songs and repeating them over and over. This created a new song out of a song.

As a father who worked for an airline company Dylan was fortunate to travel on a low fare by airplne. A monthly visit to the finest record stores in Soho London build him a true collection of the rarest tunes around. As being the main dj for Amsterdam Rap act
the Beatmasters, Dylan aka Master OC became a true B-Boy. As Hip Hop progressed and Technology evolved more styles where introduced. While New York was more into traditional Rappin Los Angels was developing its spacey electronic sound, influenced by an European Electro group Kraftwerk.

Spring 1988, Groove records London. This visit will change Dylan’s direction for the next decade for sure. Armando’s confusions revenge was pumping loud over the set in that Soho record store. Dylan gazed by hearing such a monotone rather psychedelic
sound. “Acid, acid….let’s jack the house” the funny hi pitched vocals said. Dylan was invited by a dj known as Baby Ford to an “Acid House Party” that same night. All these people dancing to that nonstop drum computer and synthetic bassline. This is gonna be the future… Big time for sure! In Amsterdam, enthusiastic Dylan shared his Soho experience with local record store employee DJ KC The Funkaholic. We have these records but no one will buy them, according to KC.
KC The Funkaholic played with a man called Eddy de Clerq at the Club Roxy Amsterdam. They played House Music for a handful of people, this soon changed.

Around the summer of 1988 the Club Roxy was packed with people like that first time in Soho. During the fall of 1988 Dylan ran into a Dutch DJ, named Daniel Leeflang, who was known as a Disco DJ during the eighties. Daniel also referred as Dano had a radio show where he played al the new House records at that time. Dylan was some how to get his hands on a small machine by Roland, the TB 303 bassline synth. Dano had an almost similar machine called the TR 606, a drum computer. Let’s hook them up together.
Making dozens recordings on tape, Dylan on the TB 303 and Dano behind the TR 606.

The beginning of 1989, a duo by the name of Fierce Ruling Diva who held various warehouse parties and also ran a record label Lower East Side. Where interested in Dylan and Dano doing a live set with those two machines. Dylan and Dano jammed for nearly two hours at Fierce Ruling Diva’s packed club Planet Earth. 2000 and One was born.

2000 and One’s first Dutch Acid House record was released by Fierce Ruling Diva’s imprint Lower East Side Records. The gates to the record industry where opened and Dylan Hermelijn’s discography became a fact.

1991 House Music being fully supported in all underground clubs across Europe, different styles started to evolve and young musicians started to mature. Dylan Hermelijn's style was influenced by the two key genres of house music: Chicago Acid House and Detroit Techno House. As far as Acid House goes Dylan did a project Edge of Motion, together with mate Gertjan Schonewille. Edge of Motion’s Set Up 707 on Miss Djax Imprint Djax Records became a huge underground hit and is a true classic now days.
Dylan’s 2000 and One was aimed for the Detroit Techno sound, inspired by legends as Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson.

Already one of the key players in the industry Dylan Hermelijn pressed up his own tracks. Due to the fact that no record label was interested in these tunes, Dylan and partner in crime Sandy Huner lay the foundation for 100% Pure Records. First release “My Life in the Bush” was supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Darren Emerson and Josh Wink. Dylan and Sandy picked up the pace and continued with there imprint 100% Pure.ഊAlong the way Dylan’s 100% Pure Records released stuff by the likes of Derrick May, Steve Rachmad, Orlando Voorn, Jerome, Speedy J, Mark Broom and more. While as an artist Dylan released albums and singles by Edge of Motion, 2000 and One, Mindscape and Babies from Gong.
Late nineties Dylan Hermelijn was responsible for a broad spectrum of electronic music. Techno, Electro, Ambient and Drum and Bass.

From the year 2001 until 2003 Dylan Hermelijn took a brief sabbatical. Since 2004 Dylan Hermelijn is active again as an Artist and as an owner of both 100% Pure Records and Intacto Records. The future will look very bright as Dylan Hermelijn is back on track again.
