Sónar will be the first European date on the Contakt tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Minus.Sónar will be the opportunity to witness a true Contakt experience, with which Richie Hawtin wants to celebrate a well-deserved anniversary.
Contakt is a live performance concept which has nothing to do with anything you have ever seen. Instead of a DJ session, or a live show, or a series of sets or live shows, Contakt will be a real electronic jam channelled by Richie Hawtin himself, and in which the Minus artists who have come to Sónar for this occasion: Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser and Heartthrob will be simultaneously participating. In other words, there will be no schedules, or slots, or a fixed musical arrangement. Richie Hawtin will be conducting the performance from beginning to end and the other artists, whether using their own music or that of others, will be sending their sound to Hawtin’s control panel, where the final format of the set will take shape. Around six uninterrupted hours of techno madness and futuristic improvisation.
Richie Hawtin founded his own label, Minus, a decade ago, with the idea of exploring the future of techno. He imagined it would be abstract, governed by the laws of minimalism –few features, big results– and ten years later, he has been proven right, as the aesthetic which Minus fought for from the very beginning predominates in contemporary techno today. The last ten years of electronic dance music, especially in the genre we call ‘minimal’, would not have been possible without Hawtin's work and vision, so it is more than fitting to celebrate ten years in the electronica with style.
The 10th anniversary showcase of Minus presents Contakt with Richie Hawtin, Magda, Troy Pierce, Marc Houle, Gaiser and Heartthrob will take place on the SonarPub stage at Sónar by Night on Friday 20 June.
