This weeks mix is by Akkachar a.k.a. Chafik Chennouf, born and raised in northern Holland, made his first contact with music through hip hop in the mid 90's. Radial, Go Hiyama, Steve Rachmad, Damon Wild and more!At the age of 17 he came in touch with the emerging Detroit techno scene, which inspired him to start collecting vinyls of artists like Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, UR and others.
Soon he discovered late 90's English Techno, pioneered by omnipresent Surgeon, Ruskin, Regis and Paul "Damage" Bailey. This new sound impressed him with it's ability to rock the dancefloor and have the deeper edge at the same time. As a matter of a fact all styles of Electronica, from spooky Ambient till heavy Industrial, drew his musical attention back in the days.
Akkachar made his first live performance on his Deflect show in 2005, which aims to present the darker and nihilistic side of Techno music to their fellow dutchmen. Since then he started to play more often at Techno gigs and shared stages with national and international artists, such as Inigo Kennedy, Jay Denham, Regis and Oliver Ho. His dj-sets will take you from the early Downwards to the harsh and atmospheric 90's stuff or from the breaks and experimental to the analogue and pounding Axis beats.
Under by his birth given name, he plays Detroit and Chigago deephouse inspired by the likes of Theo Parrish, Omar S, Moodymann, Larry Heard and Rick Wade. For Beatfreax he recorded an uncompromising and hard edged mix, brought in a subtile and thoughtfull way. It prevails your mind and ears with the needy freshness. Wide-reaching, strong and raw, the tracklist ( see below) takes in Surgeon, Joey Beltram and Steve Rachmad alongside Inigo Kennedy, Skream, Industrial Bass Machine, Petar Dundov, Abe Duque and more.
