News: beatfreax talks to ian pooley

Beatfreax talks to Ian Pooley In cooperation with T-Mobile’s Electronic Beats, deep house master Ian Pooley takes on Croatia with his impressive Sweat tour. We had the chance to have a short word with Ian.

- Can you tell us a bit more about your Sweat tour?

The electronic beats SWEAT tour is a club tour happening in July and August this year up and down the Croatian coast. We are primarily stopping at clubs I used to play at for the past 3 or 4 years. It was a great idea to make this a joint venture with the T-Mobile electronic beats program.

- You've played a few gigs in Croatia now, what's your feeling about the country and clubbers?

I have always had a special relationship with Croatia and have been doing gigs here for the past 9 years. I find that it is always a great, supportive crowd who are overall very positive but they also know know what they want to listen to. I really enjoy playing here because I see so many people and faces that have gotten to know me – especially in Zagreb.

- As many artists and DJ's at the moment, you've recently moved to Berlin. What made you decide to do this?

I moved to Berlin for reasons that are probably different than other DJs. For me, the move was about a change of place, a change of scenery. Berlin is bigger and more fun during the week. In my hometown of Mainz (Germany), I found that I often missed out on events on the weekends because I would be away at gigs. I need a place where I can go out during the week to experience music and activities.

- You've recently did a remix for The Timewriter, how did that come about?

I have known him for many years – especially from Room 106 in Mainz. We’ve always been great admirers of each other’s work. I like what he’s been doing lately and he likes my old stuff. I think I will also ask him to do a remix for me.

- What can we expect from you in the future?

As soon as I come back from the SWEAT Tour I will unpack my boxes in Berlin and set up my studio. I will start working on my new album which may be out sometime during 2007. And of course, I’ll be doing a lot of DJing.

You can see Ian Pooley at The Best in Zagreb on September 16th
