What was supposed to be a weekend in Dubrovnik, surprisingly started out on a beach in Montenegro where 2000 clubbers went mad over the uplifting beats of Sander Kleinenberg.Upon landing in Dubrovnik we coincidently met Sander Kleinenberg who invited us to join him for a gig at the Entrance Festival just outside Dubrovnik – so we all thought. During the trip though it seemed he wasn’t playing in Dubrovnik (which is in Croatia) but in Budva, one of Montenegro’s most popular cities along its beautiful coast.
Imagine an idyllic beach surrounded by rocks which go up for about 50 meters, the road to it being a small unlit path constantly hammered by the rough sea. Gazing at the beach you could see a few hundred people dancing, cheering and swimming in the dark night, thunderstorms in the background, about 10km outside the coast. Rarely have I seen such an amazing location!
Sander’s way of DJ’ing is totally different than what you’ve seen so far. Mixing with DVD’s the video output gets send to the VJ who mixes the images. Each track has a custom made clip (by VJ Mark), which makes video and audio integrate seamlessly. This clearly enriches the experience for the audience, which totally erupted during Sander’s current smash hit “This is Miami”!
The crowd was superb anyway – happy, dancing, swimming, drinking and yelling. Add a magnificent location, awesome music and friendly people and you can safely say this was one for the books. Montenegro rocks! (both figuratively and literally!).
