On Saturday the 8th of July the second edition of ‘Have a Nice Day’ festival will take place. This special day is all about good music and dancing people. On this day, laughing will be an obligation!Last year, a brave attempt was taken to organize the first real house festival in the open air theater in Eibergen. It is because of this reason that the 8th of July will go into the history books. On this historic day the ‘Have a Nice Day’ festival will become an established festival in the Dutch scene. This time we have bundled our resources, together we are stronger and unity gives you power. All faces pointed towards the same direction with the same goal, to organize a house festival that separates itself from the rest. Benny Jolink is staying home and Jovink will be busy working on the farm.
During the previous edition, we didn’t have an easy time. The lone soldiers at the frontline (New Forms) suffered from bad luck. Bad weather and the competition of another festival in Busloo, resulted in a lower than expected attendance. Our loyal supporters were there to ensure that the festival was a great event though!
For those of you who don’t have a clue where Eibergen could be, we will briefly explain. In the rural East of our beautiful flat country, there were potatoes, cows and cloggs are most popular, is a beautiful small village. There’s a beautiful watermill, fresh air and full of nice people. At the edge of the centre, surrounded by trees, there is nice little open air theater. Sometimes large commercial bands are playing and sometimes an open air church service is being held there.
June, July and August are, as every year, traditionally fully booked with parties and festivals. Every weekend a festival with a line up more expensive than the previous year. As not everybody grows their own money tree in their garden, it will be a matter of making choices. Mysteryland, Dance Valley or Awakenings? A ticket for these festivals can easily cost you around 40 euros. It’s quite a lot of money, but you will get a lot back for it! 3 euro for a beer and half an hour waiting time to go to the toilet! Or Sven Vath spoiling you with his best hits and therefore ruining it once more…
Of course we are slightly exaggerating here, but everybody knows that this makes things clear. Contrast is important and all these choices that are available to all of you make it a luxury! Music is what matters, it’s the main thing, and we should not forget this. The DJ’s are playing out of pure goodwill, no fat paychecks and no hotel. Perhaps the following sounds a bit standard, so you can start to yawn now. Nostalgia or past glory? Back to the time where the DJ’s played great music, as long as the grooves are there. House that comes from the heart, that’s all we want to share with you...
‘Have a Nice Day’ is aiming to give you that special feeling, the whole initiative comes from the love of music. We don’t have a large budget, so we can’t tempt you with a pretentious line up. We all have one thing in common, the love for the music and everything that is associated with ‘the good life’. Next to that, the will and readiness to add something to the scene. The tickets cost as little as possible, the lower the barrier. A festival driven by passion, perhaps it could become legendary!
‘House in the East, not such a bad idea.’ New Forms at the front, followed by Mood Elevator and Magnifique and the reborn Technos following. This combination provides a solid base at the Eastern Front. They’ve all earned their reputation and will make this edition a spectacular success! We all can fall back on one fact from history: Where did the intellectuals come from?
