THE ROOMS
Yellow Room
Kraftwerk's attendance had already been announced. These "godfathers" of the techno and electro movement proved they were still relevant with an impressive concert at Rock Werchter 2005. At I LOVE TECHNO they will team up with a few heirs and some of the most refreshing dance producers of the moment. Also hailing from Germany: Tiefschwarz, or the brothers Ali & Basti Schwarz. They made their breakthrough with remixes for people like Mylo and DJ Hell, displayed their excellent producing skills on the album "Eat Books" and prove time and time again that they can hold their own as DJs with their catchy mix of electro, house, pop and techno. James Holden, another favourite of the press, is only 23 years old but already owns the label Border Community. He is one of the most eclectic and personal techno wizards of the moment and has been described as the coming man in dance music on more than one occasion. At one stage he described his own DJ sets as "Aphex Twin doing Ferry Corsten Up The Bum", so expect an eclectic set. Philippe Zdar of Cassius, the final act, will present "15 Again", the most varied Cassius album yet. In the 90s he lay at the basis of the French Touch movement together with Daft Punk and Etienne De Crécy. New dance material can be expected from Dr. Lektroluv as well, who has given birth to his seventh compilation in the meantime. Nowadays he is also spreading the electro-virus far beyond Belgium's borders.
Green Room
This year the Green Room is reserved for somewhat raucous and louder sounding techno, also called schranz or hard techno. Master in the genre is DJ Rush, who will present his live project with his buddy DJ Bold as an exclusive for Belgium. At the time, Rush started his career in Chicago with the Kne'deep club night, afterwards founded the label and booking agency with the same name and will come to I LOVE TECHNO with a fine selection of friends from his stable. The Eastern-bloc-scene is well represented with Marko Nastic from Serbia and Valentino Kanzyani from Slovenia, who is mainly known for the Recycled Loops label which he founded with Umek. Saskia Slegers aka Miss Djax, of Holland's Djax label, will bring a live set full of juicy acid and techno sounds. Belgium's pride will be defended by Q-IC. In 2003 he won the I LOVE TECHNO young talent contest in the Switch Room. In the meantime, his releases on News and Ghoststyle have ended up in the record cases of international top DJs. Last but not least Pet Duo, a Brazilian duo mixing hard techno on 4 decks.
Orange Room
They were trendsetting as 2 Many DJ's with their unique mash-ups and as Soulwax Nite Versions they remixed their own material, further adding to their fame. It is, therefore, nothing short of normal that I LOVE TECHNO will host a Radio Soulwax room, where the Dewaele brothers will take a trip with a few of their soulmates. Tiga, whose album Stephen and David helped record, will be there of course. This Canadian hardly needs an introduction: radio hits like 'Sunglasses At Night', 'Pleasure From The Bass', 'You Gonna Want Me' and 'Far From Home' have a place in the back of everyone's mind and "Sexor" is the dance album par excellence of 2006. But there is also lots of space for new talent. Boys Noize throws electro, minimal and punk funk in the blender and became famous with remixes for a.o. Bloc Party and 'Less And Less' by Kaiser Chiefs. The Parisian Justice in his turn did it with a.o. tracks by Soulwax, Franz Ferdinand, N.E.R.D. and Daft Punk and especially scored with Simian's 'Never Be Alone'. Live music will be brought by Germany's Digitalism, that scored last year's electro techno hit with 'Zdarlight'. They will release their long-awaited debut in the fall.
Blue Room
Kings of Techno, that is the name of the compilation to be released in September on the prestigious label BBE Rapster/!K7 on which 2 big shots of the genre present a selection of their favourite classics. Carl Craig from Detroit, the city of techno, is undoubtedly one of the most groundbreaking producers within the genre. He wrote history under pseudonyms like Paperclip People, Innerzone Orchestra and 69 and founded the Planet E label. Laurent Garnier is the "godfather" of the techno scene. He founded the influential F-Communications with Eric Morand, produced classics like 'The Sound Of The Big Bayou', 'Crispy Bacon' and 'The Man With The Red Face' and was even given the opportunity to close the main stage at Rock Werchter. At I LOVE TECHNO he will bring a 4-hour-mix combining live and DJ elements; as a DJ he dares to go from techno by way of jazz to house, electro, rock, dub and trip hop. Expect the unexpected! Two more veterans and aces will join forces at I LOVE TECHNO. Jan Van Biezen and T-Quest, 2 Belgians by the way, will take their place behind the turntables as The Dominators. More warm techno sounds will be provided by opener Deetron, daring to combine club, house and techno and presenting his CD to dance-loving Belgium in October.
Red Room
Dave Clark is always welcome at I LOVE TECHNO. Even after all these years this electro connoisseur and techno pioneer remains a step ahead of the competition and that deserves respect! Just ask Amil Kahn and Charles Siegling of Technasia, who besides DJ Godfather and DJ Rush called upon his services as a producer for their latest album "Popsoda", which will be presented live in Ghent. Joris Voorn also worked on that album. Since his 'Last Memories Pt. 2' was pronounced crossover techno anthem of 2004 by Mixmag the career of this guy from Rotterdam has really taken off. With 'Future History' he provided the techno release of 2004. A year later he displayed his DJ skills on the mix compilation "Fuse Presents". Further live music will be performed by Motor, which gives a new boost to Electronic Body Music and links it with the best that is on offer in techno today on its album "Klunk" (Novamute).
