11 will celebrate its 2nd anniversary this weekend and because it’s some what of a miracle that we’ve even lasted this long, we’ll be celebrating it big.

A lot has been said about 11 in the past two years. Even the New York Times and CNN felt that this not so Dutch phenomenon was worth mentioning. Which brings us to the heart of our reputation; internationally acclaimed but not quite understood in the local circuit.

Sure, we’ve maid quite a few mistakes; not everyone has enjoyed their meal in our restaurant and even finding your way up to the 11th floor of our building can be a serious hastle. Nevertheless hundreds of people make the effort of coming up every day, only to be rewarded by plenty of ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaah’s’ when they see the view and our unique space.
The club has also experienced varied success. After opening our doors we were quickly labelled ‘hot’ and ‘hip’, even though that was the exact opposite of what we wanted. And again we were mistaken on some accounts: our door policy turned out to be a nightmare, especially for the idealistic kind of people we consider ourselves to be. We’ve both been genius as well as fawlty when it comes to booking dj’s and live acts. And then, when we finally got all the pieces of the puzzle in place and hundreds of people are partying like hell on the dancefloor, the electricity fails...
All things considered, we like to think that making mistakes is allowed and we actually think it makes it all the more interesting. 11 is the place to be when you want to be an eye-witness to our journey to that high peak that we want to reach. That’s why we say: “Why do the same every day, when you have the chance to do something different? “

11, which started out from an idealistic point of view, has grown out to attract over 700.000 visitors in the past two years. We’ve been internationally applauded for our raw combination of nightlife and contemporary electronic music, art and culture. The restaurant is still filled with happy tastebudds every single day and the club still showcases the latest national and international dj’s and live-acts every week. It doesn’t matter if you’re 82 years old and are simply looking for a nice place to have your coffee and apple-pie or if you’re 23 and looking for cutting edge minimal techno: you’ll find it at 11. We offer a worth-while option within the current monotonous mass-culture that is thrown at us every second of the day. 11 is based on the will to be a positive influence and added value to Amsterdam instead of running a business purely based on making a profit. Non-pretentious and raw, it’s all about the stuff that matters.

Meanwhile 11 has been very busy making new plans and realising new dreams, starting with a new collaboration with Platform 21 in the St. Nicolaaskerk (Zuidas). Adding to that, we’re planning to expand our function as creative platform and cultural free place. And we have plenty of faith in succeeding in the remaining two years that we have left in the Post CS building. Because listen up: We’ve just received the wonderful news that 11 has the permission to stay open until July 2008! So that means that 11.2 will not only be a celebration of our two-year-existence, but will also be a celebration of the two years still ahead. So expect to hear a lot from us in the time still to come.......
