DJ Shadow, a genius of avant-garde American hip-hop, presents the latest phenomenon of the always prolific Bay Area underground rap scene at Sonar by Night.

And what better way to discover the freshness of "hyphy" than under the leadership of its greatest exponents, the three most significant MCs on the scene, Keak Da Sneak, Turf Talk and Nump. Crude rhythms, direct rhymes and ultra-simple melodies for the new sound of the West Coast.

Sónar is the only place in Europe where DJ Shadow and its crew offer this totally new, addictive style emerging out of San Francisco Bay. There hasn’t been this kind of anticipation since the first days of grime. The rhyme scene has a reason to celebrate with the birth of its latest offspring, a sound that’s been dubbed “hyphy.”

Another addition is the French artist of Slavic origin Camille, who has been compared to vocalists such as Björk and Tori Amos. Yet there’s no doubt that the composer of "Le Fil" has her own personality and style. Proof of this is the fascinating show in which her vocal chords jump from pop to avant-garde and contemporary jazz, to a capella rhythms, broken melodies, throaty juggling and loads of talent. Hot Chip, gracing us with their recently released EP “Barbarian” and the extravagant The Pinker Tones, surrounded by analogical artillery, theremins, and the clear intention of paying tribute to the electronic sound of the sixties are also completing the list. Mister Furia and Professor Manso have become the Spanish band with the widest international scope at the moment. Yesterday’s pop, electrified for tomorrow. Agoria, the latest addition, is now an important figure of the European techno scene, developing a unique groove and approach to the dancefloor.
