It's not every day that F-com label boss and all round DJ Laurent Garnier visits Holland, but when he does you'd better make sure your there! At least; if you can get in on time that is. Arriving around 00:00 it was clear that the queue had taken on a form we've never even seen at the Paradiso before. I spoke to people who had to wait well over an hour to get in, and if they were eventually… there’s the bouncers to deal with again.
Why on earth is Paradiso not able to organize their entrance in an orderly fashion? It’s not that hard; almost sold out, you have x entrances and know that most people want to be in around 00:00. Examine this data and draw conclusions. And then the bouncers again; them alone is a good reason never to vote for Paradiso as the “Nachttempel of the year”. Why are these **sholes still working there? Why is it so hard to smile and just be polite? The entrance is the face of your event (and venue) and with these aggressive guys at the door you just don’t start of the night with a nice vibe.
But ok, let’s get back to the stuff you’re reading this for; the music. Garnier has never let me down all the times I’ve heard him, and this night was no exception. Yes it was too crowded to move sometimes, but if you had the space (certainly after about 04:00) you could dance to house classics, techno, the Doors, Beastie Boys, Drum ‘n Bass and of course The Man With The Red Face which made the place explode.
Garnier remains one of my absolute all time favourites, the way he blends just any kind of good music in one big mix is truly unique. Garnier yeah! Paradiso boo!
