Dutch dance magazine "Release" has just published it's renewed edition. This month it includes interviews with Tiga, Armin van Buuren, Steve Rachmad, Lenny D and much more. After a good 3 months of absence Release is back in stores again. After main founder ID&T pulled the plug it drifted freely for some time, but was picked up by one of Holland’s most known dance journalists Gert van Veen, who is now chief editor / navigator.
The reason ID&T pulled the plug has always been kept pretty quite, but it’s presumable that the number of subscriptions went down, just as the commercial revenues. As we [BF] have said before it is a very difficult market to publish a paper magazine these days, with the interactivity and speed of the Internet catching up on it time after time.
This “Release new style” is said to be more aimed at its original core; music. Some previous features are maintained, like the “Nachtteam”, “DJ Fanclub”, “Party Agenda” and “Reviews” and some new are added. We’re happy to report though that the amount of advertisements is nothing in comparison to the “old style” and are mainly music oriented. Furthermore the layout hasn’t changes a lot and the content indeed seems to be more focussed on music.
We wish them all the best, because Holland really needs a decent (bigger) dance magazine besides the freely distributed DJ Broadcast magazine.
