Room 02, which is why we were at Fabric, has an even better line-up for minimal-techno enthusiasts; Craig Richards, Heartthrob (live) and Troy Pierce.Fabric line-ups as always are very appealing. Saturday is electronic music of 4/4 proportion and last Saturday was no exception with the likes of US's Iz&Diz and a live performance by Tortured Soul, a three man band that blend live instruments, vocals and layered house beats set the tone in Room 01. Resident DJ Terry Francis was on hand to warm up the crowd in this body-sonic room.
Room 02, which is why we were at Fabric, has an even better line-up for minimal-techno enthusiasts; Craig Richards, Heartthrob (live) and Troy Pierce. The excellent Craig Richard was doing what he does best, psyching the crowd in the earlier part of the night. We arrived at 1 am and was a little surprised by the amount of people in the queue; none. Expecting a half empty Fabric (never happened in my time) it was actually the most perfect amount of people, full but with room to dance. Fabric can get very packed even with 1600 people capacity.
Craig Richard is one of the original Fabric DJs that have stand through time and trend. His 'Tyrant' night set the tone for today's minimal parties. He has maintained the quality of mixing and music since Fabric opened its doors and last night was no exception. He has enough experience with Fabric crowd to know how to deliver one of the best opening sets.
At 3 am, the job of pleasing the crowd was given to Heartthrob. His live set was done on a laptop, an effect and a midi-controller/mixer. Room two at Fabric was always harder than room 01, Heartthrob set was slightly mild and moody, some of it a little boring although still brilliant. He played all the tracks of 'Time to Ensor EP' which were the main draw for the crowd. After a little over an hour, Troy Pierce was manning the decks. This brought an aurora of anticipation from the already wild crowd. The reception from the people at the end of Heartthrob set was excellent.
Troy's opening track set the atmosphere for the rest of the night/morning. He was playing a tougher set than expected, it made the room and the people shake with joy! It was still minimal but in a Richie Hawtin's mould. This happened to most DJs that have played in Fabric. When usually they play a mild minimal, Fabric brought a different mind set to them. Fair-play because this place does make normal people go absolutely mental (in a good way). Using all the equipments and software i.e. laptops, final scratch, Ableton live, 2 turntables Troy is one of the most creative DJs around at moment. Seeing, listening, dancing and basically enjoying his set was a good experience. The only bad experience we had was it had to stop at 6.30 in the morning.
I am expecting more excellent line-ups from Fabric and I will be there to report all the joy and craziness. Till then...
