It might be me or the people around me, but if I'd get a euro for every time I heard somebody say "Geez, I'm really eager for more tempo on the dance floor than this whole minimal craze these days" I'd be rich. Don't get me wrong, I still love listening and dancing to it, but sometimes you just need some more energy to "let it all out". It was probably this feeling, plus the fact that Planet Rose celebrated it's 11 aniversary (which makes it about the longest running techno night in the Netherlands!) that made the party so energetic.
In the small room a fair slice of Nijmegen's dj scene gathered for a great intimate atmosphere (as always in that room). Mark, Camiel, Bob van Hoove, Bart Thissen, Pure and many other showed that Nijmegen has a huge musical base which clearly feeds the Planet Rose nights to become so succesful.
In the big room Derrick May pleased the crowd with an uplifting 4-hour-set. In my opinion May is one of the most complete DJ's I know, why?
- He clearly enjoys the music he plays, which rubs off on the dance floor.
- He plays his mixer like a painter uses his canvas, like a way to express art.
- He's feels the mood and interacts with the crowd.
- His sets are always (the times I've seen him at least) uplifting and rarly have dull moments.
All in all a complete DJ who has never dissapointed me. Great night, great crowd, friendly bouncers and a decent soundsystem. Randstad eat your heart out!
