News: richie hawtin, de9: transitions

Richie Hawtin has been working on his next release, DE9: Transitions at his studio in Berlin. With the use of new recording advances and automation techniques, Hawtin uses his new found freedom to expose a new area of the mix, that of the 'transition'.

DE9:Transitions blows the idea of the conventional DJ mix out of the water and not only explores the traditional musical 'transition' in time & amplitude (X and Y) of Sound, but also in the depth (Z) of Space &
Perception, opening up the DJ mix for the first time into a fully encompassing, surround sound (5.1) environment.

DE9: Transitions has been from start to end, constructed, and composed to be a completely immersive experience, allowing you, the listener, to get further into the heart of it all... and this time, even closer to the edit.

To fully maximise the realisation of this concept DE9: Transitions will be released in Sept 2005 (novamute/Minus) on CD & DVD, including both Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound versions, as well as high resolution audio versions and accompanying visuals.

Richie Hawtin will preview DE9: Transitions in 5.1 surround sound for the first time at Sonar, Barcelona 2005. Expect a full review of this historic event on Beatfreax!

"Hawtin uses his new found freedom to expose a new area of the mix, that of the 'transition'"

How is that a new area of the mix? Isn't a mix all about making transistions?

I'm very curious about the 5.1 usage in the mix. Though I don't have a 5.1 set, I believe 5.1 can be used for ways to increase the creativity of the artist and the possibilities in which music can sound (especially in clubs).
