Gore, Luke Vibert, Matt Elliott, Diplo, Guillamino, Professor Angel Dust, Tim Goldsworthy reviewing DFA’s catalogue and a showcase by Finnish label Fonal, among other new features.
Martin L. Gore, the brains behind the band and charismatic member of Depeche Mode, will visit the Festival just a few months after releasing his new record with Dave Gaham and Andrew Fletcher. He will offer a special session at the turntable, demonstrating his extensive musical knowledge. Also featured will be a live session by Luke Vibert, magician of the British electronic scene. Vibert has maintained an unstoppable pace, recently releasing two new records, one on Ninja Tune under the name Wagon Christ and another on Planet Mu under his own name.
Matt Elliott, the brilliant musician from Bristol who in the 90’s was responsible for memorable records such as Third Eye Foundation, will perform his second record under his own name, “Drinking Songs”, live. The album confirms his stature as one of the most interesting artists of today. In a totally different style, American beatmaker Diplo will round out SonarPark Saturday, offering a special session full of fast-paced beats and rhythms that can also be heard on his debut album, “Florida” (Ninja Tune).
DFA, one of today’s most influential labels, will be represented at SonarLab with a set by Tim Goldsworthy, who along with the popular James Murphy will showcase the label’s impeccable catalogue. Some of the most interesting works in recent years has come out of Finland. Unsurprisingly, then, Finland will be very present at the Festival in the form of a showcase of the label Fonal, with performances by Islaja, Es and Kemialliset Ystävát, musicians who use electronic music to update traditional Finnish folk.
Two important names on the Spanish scene need to be added to the aforementioned announcements. One is Professor Angel Dust, a fixture on the Barcelona scene over the last ten years, who has just released an album loaded with breaks, Latin rhythms and house groove. The other is Valencia-based Lontano, a duo that has been giving people a lot to talk about both within and outside our borders thanks to “Chroma”, their first LP for emerging label Factor City.
