This third Morality edition of INMOTION underlines its passion for Detroit techno by inviting over one of the key legends of this sound: Robert Hood.
Hood is one of the founding fathers of cult Techno imprint/group Underground Resistance along with Jeff Mills and Mad Mike Banks. His seminal works on Jeff Mills's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dancefloor minimalism that directed much of techno's path throughout the late Nineties. As Birmingham's Surgeon once remarked, "When Hood released his pivotal 'Minimal Nation' EP in 1993, it was like a bomb went off."
His sound and ideology are best portrayed in his own words: "M-Plant is what I've always wanted to hear: the basic stripped down, raw sound. Just drums, basslines and funky grooves and only what's essential. Only what is essential to make people move. I started to look at it as a science, the art of making people move their butts, speaking to their heart, mind and soul. It's a heart-felt rhythmic techno sound. M-Plant is just M. Minimal."
This edition also presents Amsterdam's Raymon Hollander, Dutch offspring of Detroit sound. Raymon has been DJing since the late 90s; affinity towards Detroit sound came about naturally, at the early stage of his musical career. Currently working at Rush Hour distribution in Amsterdam, he is also hosting a monthly Detroit techno night "Metropolis" at DJ Cafe TWSTD and working on his first 12".
Last but not least, Steve Rachmad hosts this evening not only as one of the INMOTION residents, but also as the father of Detroit sound in the Netherlands. Already in the early days of techno, Steve's production style resembles key elements and atmosphere of Detroit techno. He was soon to be found working with artists like Darren Emerson and Derrick May, to develop his own deep, groovy sound which tends to rest on impressive strings, melodies, funk and soul. Along his extensive production path, he also releases a Sterac 12" on Hood's M-Plant in 1997. Up to this date he remains loyal to Detroit techno.
